File extensions? extensions in Photos? new DB? sorry.kinda lost you there. But note that that doesn't work for exporting the original, and for metadata for that original. Essentially you ignore the non destructive editing part of Photos and do an export after every edit, kinda like a "save as.". If you want the results of that playing around to be seen in Mylio. Depends on whether you wanna keep using Photos a lot I guess. It's a pain to delete images from disk in Photos, so I dunno what to say.

BUT if you move out of the library/package of course Photos doesn't know they're gone and will object. This leads me to another question some Photos extensions are now not readable by Mylio (the older iPhotos extensions when it first launched.) I won't be able to simply find my images in Photos and drag folders to a new DB, but will actually need to export those photos, or use something like GraphicConverter to read them? So, what I hear you saying, is to simply move my photos into new folders on my MBP, and have both Photos AND Mylio watch that, would that be correct?Īny images I play around with in Photos would then need to be exported to these new photos to be tracked in Mylio, is that correct? 12 years now? so have everything as "copied into" as that was all I knew at the time I first set it up and have been lazy about cataloging. And yes, I've been using Photos (or iPhoto) for um. It confirms my very limited understanding of Mylio's interaction with Photos. I am so happy you responded, Rob, thank you. But if you say changed an image therein to BW and exported to the same folder, Mylio would see that and sync the new BW image. There would be no interaction with Photos, and if you changed the images via Mylio or some other application it could befuddle Photos, which can't handle that like say Lightroom does by incorporating the changes. you didn't use the "copy into." preference in Photos) you could have Mylio watch those folders as it does any old folder. If Photos on the MBP were referencing images (i.e. Kinda like what a lot of apps do with the camera roll on an iPhone. So in essence Mylio's import of images from Photos is really an EXPORT from Photos and then an import into Mylio. Second, a consequence of that obviously is that changes in Photos are not reflected in Mylio. Mylio's import function COPIES those out when it imports from Photos From a managed library, I further assume.įirst, Photos is sort of a closed system if you have photos in it's library (managed). So, if I'm understanding you the object is to add the images in the Photos application on the MBP to Mylio, and hence synch that with the other devices, but NOT duplicate any image from the Photos library. I *love* Mylio, just missing something pretty important when it comes to adding the Photos watch piece. I'm clearly doing something wrong, as I've had to restructure my Mylio database twice now since joining.

Add my Macbook Pro to the Mylio system so that it watches the folders in Photos, without creating duplicates.

  • Photo folders on PC are also being watched by Mylio, and are backed up to the Mylio Cloud (the photos are not duplicated in Mylio, they are simply being watched and updated when I add new photos to my photos folders.).
  • Some of those photos are also on my Macbook Pro in Photos (not linked to Mylio).
  • 50,000 photos on my PC in a date-driven file structure database.
